In a groundbreaking move, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given the green light to the establishment of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) Appellate Tribunal in Indore, as announced by the Madhya Pradesh government’s Public Relations Department. The approval comes in response to the fervent demand made by Lok Sabha member Shankar Lalwani during parliamentary discussions, citing the city’s status as having the highest number of taxpayers in Madhya Pradesh.
Lalwani emphasized the significant impact the GST Appellate Tribunal would have on the city’s tax professionals and thousands of businesses. Currently, individuals from Indore and other regions in the state have to navigate to the GST Appellate Tribunal in Bhopal to contest decisions made by commercial tax authorities in GST-related matters.
This move is set to streamline the appeal process, offering convenience and timely resolutions to taxpayers. With optimism in the air, Lalwani expressed hope for a swift opening of the GST Appellate Tribunal in Indore. The decision marks a pivotal moment in tax administration, promising substantial benefits for both tax professionals and the business community in the region.
